The small gadget that’s making a big difference

New wire-free charging technology makes travellers’ lives a little easier.

Coming up with new and innovative ways to take some of the stress out of waiting for a flight is one way that the passenger’s experience can be improved – and delighting customers is always SSP’s top priority.

Powerkiss in action

A mobile phone battery running low just as you go to make that important phone call is a hassle any traveller could do without.  Now visitors to SSP’s outlets can top up their phones and stay connected while enjoying a drink or something to eat – without the bother of carrying chargers and adaptors.

Launched in partnership with leading technology company PowerKiss, the service is now available at Helsinki, Frankfurt and Copenhagen airports, and seven airports across Norway including Oslo.

To use the simple system, customers collect a receiver ‘ring’ at the outlet, plug it into their mobile device and then lay it onto PowerKiss enabled tables installed throughout the restaurant or café.  The phone is then charged without the use of wires.

Commenting on the new venture, Maija Itkonen, CEO of PowerKiss said; ‘We are delighted to be working with SSP on this pioneering project.  Their scale across a large number of airports and a broad range of countries, coupled with their innovative approach and operational capacity to get a project like this up and runnning, make them ideal partners.’

The new service will be rolled otu across an additional 30 airports, including Charles de Gaulle, Stockholm-Arlanda, Malaga, Manchester and Bristol.
